Freedom of Expression and Islam

The bullets and hatred that today killed 10 journalists of the French publication Charlie-Hedbo and two police men were directed at all of us:

Let us not forget in our grief, rage, and sadness, that many men, women, and children of the Islāmic faith are the main victims of this particular murderous strand of cowardly religious fanaticism that fears reading, writing, and arithmetic as practiced by diverse, tolerant, and educated women and men. And children.

Children like Malala Yousafzai deserve a brighter future than the darkness that is promised and practiced by the Taliban, Islāmic State, and Al-Qaeda.

Failed men tried to silence Malala as an unarmed 14-year old girl the same way that today they tried to silence the unarmed French journalist. Their method, bullets to the head, failed then, failed today, and will fail in the future.

The real Islam of scholarship, tolerance, and equality is on display in this interview of Malala Yousafzai with Jon Steward:

  1. Yes religion stinks! It is only organized superstition.

  2. Islam needs to be outlawed!! An avowed enemy of the world, needs to be extinguished as fascism was in the 1940’s!! No human rights for these subhuman’s!! Keep your liberal trash comments to your self! I thought this was a science sight? One more liberal trash comments & I’m outta here!!

    • We agree that fascism in any form needs to be extinguished. Lets add communism to this as well as, practically speaking, there is little difference between these two extremes.

I strongly disagree with you, however, that any one religion needs to be outlawed. I support my US Constitution and will defend it, even with a gun if necessary. The 1st Amendment of the US Constitution guarantes to all Americans the freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition. The 2nd Amendment guarantes my right as a US citizen to own a gun to defend the 1st Amendment.

      • So, if adolph hitler masqueraded his ambitions as a religión, he would Have free reígn, along with all rights afforded to him under the constitution? Sorry, I refuse to accept that, the sooner the world sees islam as the terroristic, murderous cult that they are, the better off we will all be. Till Then, get used to All the murders & killings, for you & your p.c. world are all complicit!!

      • You are well within your rights to refuse acceptance of the US Constitution and its Bill of Rights: I will fight for your right to express your opinion, even if I find it offensive, as I do. Nobody, neither you, I, nor the US Government has the right to infringe on these duly constituted rights. This is why the Klu-Klux-Klan is free to speak, assemble, and protest, but they cannot infringe on these rights by, say, using violence to hurt or terrorize others. If these laws and rights as codified in the US Constitutions would have been in place in 1933 in Germany or in 1918 in Russia with an armed citizenry willing and able to defend it, then neither fascism nor communism would have evolved far. So, freedom of religion, speech, assembly, etc. are essential safeguards of free, democratic, and strong societies. These rights are no free pass for murder, one-party rule, totalitarian control, or religious uniformity.

That said, I will more closely moderate, edit, or disallow future, poorly written comments that propagate views in conflict with the US Constitution.
